As consultants across the UK will know, significant changes to BS 8233:2014 are currently under development, with the Association of Noise Consultants organising meetings and events to encourage industry-wide input.
There are to be significant changes in 3 main areas:
The acoustic design of residential developments affected by transportation sound
Sound insulation between rooms
Sound absorption within buildings
Reviews of the proposed new guidance have been mixed. Whilst some consultants are trusting the opinions of the board, many are saying the guidance has been made in a one-sided manner, was based on assumptions, and felt rushed, as if the proposed ideas had not been thoroughly considered.
The changes to BS 8233:2014 could have massive implications on the acoustics industry, and it is incredibly important that a range of viewpoints are sought to ensure changes made are done with consultants in mind, as well as academics.
Sharps Redmore are keen to see what the outcome will be of further ANC meetings regarding this important document, and how this may change the practices of consultants across the UK.
