The year of 2024 saw a dramatic increase in the number of Padel Tennis courts going through the planning system across the UK. Originating in Mexico in the late 1960’s, the sport now has over 30 million players worldwide, including a staggering 129,000 players in the UK alone.
With popularity for the sport increasing, the demand for new courts is at an all-time high, but proposals for new courts must go through planning before they can be built. One of the main concerns – noise. From the sound of rackets colliding with the ball and players running across the courts to plant noise from the ventilation and mechanical services for these facilities, there are a range of noisy activities at these facilities that could impact local residents.
Director Gary King has become somewhat known for his work undertaking acoustic assessments of these sports centres, with one client hailing him as “The Acoustic Oracle of Padel Tennis”.
Gary has helped get planning permission for courts across the country, including one court just over a mile from our Head Office at the Copdock and Washbrook tennis club. The redevelopment of one of the existing Tennis courts into a Padel Tennis court will see the residents of Ipswich and surrounding villages being able to come down and play at one of only two clubs around the Suffolk county town.
We wish the club all the best with the development and the team at Sharps Redmore look forward to coming over for a game very soon!
