Walworth Town Hall

After a devastating fire in 2013 which landed Walworth Town Hall on the “Heritage at Risk” register, the property was in need of some love and care to give it a new lease of life. Such historic properties often come with challenges – how do you modernise the property and create fresh, user-friendly spaces whilst retaining and respecting the heritage of the building?

Feix & Merlin Architects, for client General Projects in Partnership with Southwark council, had the task of redesigning Walworth Town Hall to become a multi-use workspace and community hub for a variety of users such as independent businesses, arts and cultural groups and community organisations. The redevelopment features an on-site café, meeting rooms, breakout and event spaces. This project has been nominated for the Civic Trust Awards 2026, showcasing the best of Civic construction.

Sharps Redmore were pleased to be involved in the planning and design aspects of the scheme, assisting the developers in gaining planning permission in terms of internal noise and plant emissions in a densely urban area, plus the many challenges of internal acoustic design within such heritage buildings.

We were thrilled to assist on this exciting project, bringing the historic Walworth Town Hall back to life. Congratulations to all who played a part in making this project a resounding success.
