The Perse School – a prestigious independent school in Cambridge that boasts top student exam results, an extensive range of extra-curricular activities and outstanding facilities. The school has close ties with the historic and culturally significant University of Cambridge and was founded over 400 years ago.
In 2021, the decision was made to expand on the school’s existing sports facilities by building “The Perse Sports Centre”, which includes a 25-metre swimming pool, a 10.5m climbing wall and a sports hall available for public use. Having opened in late 2024, the centre now not only serves the students at the school, but also the surrounding community.
Sharps Redmore were pleased to be a part of this scheme, assisting from the early planning stage through design development all the way through to completion, working for both the school and the main contractor Willmott Dixon. With a naturally ventilated sports hall, reverberation control throughout, building services in close proximity to neighbours and seeking BREEAM Excellent, the centre offered a variety of engaging acoustic and noise control issues.
Their amazing climbing wall, and the response of the students can be found easily on the YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hohe2nlezVk;
We’re pleased to see that the new facilities have had such a positive impact on the local community, and it was a pleasure to have been a part of such a fantastic development.
